VRF & Multi-Zone
Repair, Service & Installation

VRF systems offer zone-by-zone climate control, but when they fail, diagnostics require specialized expertise. Inverter board errors, refrigerant imbalances, communication faults between indoor and outdoor units — we service Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, Samsung, Fujitsu, and all VRF brands across the Bay Area.

WHAT WE DO

VRF System Services

Specialized repair, maintenance, and installation for variable refrigerant flow and multi-zone HVAC systems.

Error Code Diagnostics

VRF systems communicate through error codes between outdoor condensing units, branch controllers, and indoor heads. We read and interpret manufacturer-specific codes for Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, Samsung, and Fujitsu to pinpoint failures quickly.

Inverter Board & Compressor

Inverter drive board replacement, compressor diagnostics, and variable-speed motor service. VRF compressors modulate output continuously — when the inverter board fails, the system shuts down entirely or runs at fixed speed, losing its efficiency advantage.

Refrigerant & Leak Repair

VRF systems use significantly more refrigerant than traditional systems — a leak can cost thousands in R-410A alone. Electronic leak detection, nitrogen testing, brazing repairs, proper recovery and charge verification on every job.

Zone Balancing & Controls

Individual zone temperature calibration, branch controller service, wired and wireless controller programming, and system balancing. When one zone is hot and another cold, the problem is often in the controls or refrigerant distribution — not the equipment itself.

Indoor Unit Service

Ceiling cassette, wall-mount, ducted, and floor-standing indoor unit repair. Fan motor replacement, coil cleaning, drain pump service, filter maintenance, and airflow adjustment for each individual zone.

New VRF Installation

Complete VRF system design and installation. Outdoor unit placement, refrigerant piping, branch controller sizing, indoor unit selection and mounting, controls integration, and commissioning. Ideal for office buildings, medical facilities, and multi-tenant spaces.

VRF System Service: Specialized Expertise

Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems are the most advanced commercial HVAC technology available. They provide individual zone control, simultaneous heating and cooling, and energy efficiency that traditional systems cannot match. But that sophistication comes with complexity — VRF repairs require technicians who understand inverter-driven compressors, variable-speed refrigerant control, and manufacturer-specific diagnostic software.

Many HVAC companies avoid VRF work because it requires specialized training and tools. We do not. Our technicians are trained on Mitsubishi City Multi, Daikin VRV, LG Multi V, Samsung DVM, and Fujitsu Airstage systems. We carry the diagnostic tools needed to read error histories, test inverter boards, and verify refrigerant charge on variable-speed systems.

Why VRF Systems Fail

The most common VRF failures we see are inverter board malfunctions (often caused by power quality issues), refrigerant leaks at flare connections and brazed joints, communication faults between outdoor and indoor units, and drain pump failures on ceiling cassettes. Unlike traditional systems, a single fault in a VRF system can cascade — one failed sensor can shut down the entire outdoor unit, affecting every zone in the building.

VRF Brands We Service

Mitsubishi Electric (City Multi), Daikin (VRV), LG (Multi V), Samsung (DVM), Fujitsu (Airstage), Toshiba-Carrier, and Midea/Gree commercial VRF platforms. Mitsubishi and Daikin are the most common in Bay Area commercial installations.

FAQ

VRF System Questions

VRF repair costs range from $300 to $5,000+ depending on the issue. Controller or sensor replacement runs $300–$800. Inverter board replacement is $1,500–$3,000. Compressor replacement on a VRF outdoor unit can exceed $5,000 due to the specialized components. We provide a clear quote after diagnosis.
A VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system uses one outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units, each with independent temperature control. Unlike an RTU that heats or cools the whole building at once, VRF lets different zones run at different temperatures simultaneously. They are 30–50% more energy-efficient but more complex and expensive to install and repair.
VRF systems use inverter-driven compressors, proprietary communication protocols, and manufacturer-specific diagnostic software. A technician trained only on traditional HVAC cannot effectively diagnose VRF faults. We invest in manufacturer training and carry the diagnostic tools required for Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, and other VRF platforms.
VRF outdoor units typically last 15–20 years. Indoor units can last 20–25 years since they have fewer mechanical components. Regular maintenance is critical — VRF systems are less forgiving of neglect than traditional HVAC because inverter boards and sensors are sensitive to dirty conditions.
