Furnace Repair Services

Gas and electric furnace diagnosis, repair, and safety inspection by NATE-certified technicians.

Ignitor & Flame Sensor

The ignitor is the most common furnace failure point. When it cracks or wears out, the furnace clicks but never lights. We replace hot surface ignitors, flame sensors, and spark igniters for all furnace brands — usually a same-day fix.

Heat Exchanger Inspection

A cracked heat exchanger is a carbon monoxide risk — the most serious furnace safety concern. We inspect heat exchangers visually and with combustion analysis to verify there are no CO leaks into your living space.

Blower Motor & Fan

Blower motor replacement, capacitor service, and fan speed adjustment. A failing blower means weak airflow from vents — the furnace fires but heat never reaches the rooms. ECM and PSC motor diagnostics and replacement.

Gas Valve & Controls

Gas valve replacement, control board diagnostics, pressure switch repair, and limit switch service. When the furnace locks out with an error code, we read the code, diagnose the cause, and fix the actual problem — not just reset the board.

Draft Inducer & Exhaust

Draft inducer motor replacement, flue pipe inspection, and condensate drain service. The draft inducer pulls combustion gases out of the heat exchanger — when it fails, the pressure switch locks out the furnace as a safety measure.

CO & Safety Testing

Carbon monoxide testing in the supply air and around the furnace, gas leak detection, and combustion analysis. Safety comes first — every furnace repair includes a safety verification before we leave your home.

Furnace Repair: Safety and Comfort

Bay Area homes rely on gas furnaces for heating from October through April. While the Bay Area does not see extreme cold, morning temperatures in the 30s and 40s make a broken furnace impossible to ignore — especially with young children, elderly family members, or anyone working from home.

The most common furnace repairs we see are ignitor failure (furnace clicks but does not light), blower motor problems (furnace fires but no air comes from vents), and dirty flame sensors (furnace lights briefly then shuts off within seconds). These are all same-day repairs that typically cost between $150 and $600.

Furnace Safety Is Not Optional

A furnace with a cracked heat exchanger can leak carbon monoxide into your home. CO is odorless and invisible. Every furnace repair and tune-up includes a carbon monoxide safety check. If we find a safety concern, we will tell you immediately and explain your options clearly — safety is never something we take lightly or use as a sales tactic.

FAQ

Furnace Repair Questions

Most furnace repairs cost $150–$700. Ignitor replacement is $150–$300. Blower motor runs $350–$650. Gas valve replacement is $400–$700. Control board replacement costs $300–$600. A cracked heat exchanger usually means it is time for a new furnace ($3,000–$6,000 installed).
It depends on the noise. A banging sound at startup can indicate delayed ignition (gas buildup before lighting) which should be checked promptly. Squealing usually means a failing blower motor bearing. Rattling is often a loose panel or ductwork. If you smell gas at any point, leave the house immediately and call your gas company.
Gas furnaces typically last 15–25 years in the Bay Area. With annual tune-ups, filter changes, and prompt repairs, many furnaces last 20+ years. After 20 years, efficiency drops and repair costs increase — that is usually when replacement makes sense. Learn about new furnace options.
The blinking LED on your furnace control board is an error code. Each manufacturer uses different blink patterns — the code chart is usually on a sticker inside the furnace panel. Common codes indicate ignition failure, pressure switch fault, or high-limit trip. Write down the pattern (e.g., “3 blinks”) before calling — it helps us prepare the right parts.
